Lip Blush: What You Need To Know Before Your Appointment

Thanks to the JLo, Angelina Jolie and the Kardashian/Jenner sister’s juicy lips are a big trend in today‘s world. From lip injections to plumping lip gloss there are many options for getting fuller lips and now tattooing is one of them. Lip blush is a tattoo that not only enhances the lip shape it also gives you a boost of colour and adds fullness to your lips. We listed all the things you need to consider before getting this treatment.

How Is This Treatment Done?

A tiny needle deposits pigment into the lips, which builds layers of colour to enhance the natural lip shape, symmetry, and colour. As an added bonus lip blush stimulates collagen. To watch the full video on this treatment you can watch it on Angela’s IGTV by clicking here!

How Permanent Is The Treatment?

Similar to any other cosmetic tattoo this treatment is permanent and can last from 2-5 years. The results can vary from person to person depending on lifestyle like, smoking and sun exposure can speed up the fading process, read our last blog post about Microblading and Sun Exposure on ways to prevent fading. If you’re a smoker, have an iron deficiency or use a lot of exfoliating products in your skin regimen, the pigment could fade more quickly, too.

What To Expect After Your Treatment?

Once the treatment is complete, your lips will be swollen. You are able to ice your lips if needed but not directly on the skin. Taking an extra-strength Advil will also help with swelling. Swelling should go down within 48 hrs. Over the next week, your lips will be healing and shedding of scabs will occur, when they start to scab it’s best that you let them fall off on there own this will prevent scarring and loss of pigment in areas. We also suggested during the scabbing phase you avoid the sun and prolonged exposure to water or sweat. Do not apply anything besides Aquaphor ointment such as vaseline, antibiotic creams, Neosporin, chapstick etc while in the scabbing phase.

Another thing to keep in mind is once your lips are healed they will look completely different from when you first got them done. When you first leave your lips will be bright and vibrant but once they are healed the colour fades approximately 50 percent and also blends in with the natural lip colour. Angela suggests a touch up after 6 weeks, in this session, you can adjust your lips shape and symmetry if needed, add colour or fix any areas that may have not healed as well.

Bring In Your Everday Lip Stick Shade

Angeal suggested trying on many different shades of rose, coral, and nude to see what you like best on your skin tone. Once you have decided your favourite everyday lipstick shade you can bring that into your appointment so we can colour match it. The colour is 100% customizable for you to decide!

How Is The Pain?

This is a Lip Tattoo so it won’t be painless but we apply a topical anaesthetic with 5% Lidocaine for numbing is applied to the lips before and throughout the procedure for maximum comfort as pain tolerance will vary from person to person.

If you require something stronger, you may purchase Emla at a pharmacy or ask your doctor for a higher percentage of anaesthetic in water-based form and we can apply that for you at your appointment. You may also take 1-2 Extra Strength Tylenol (NOT ADVIL) 30 minutes before your appointment. It also helps if you make sure to eat before your appointment so your blood sugar is levelled.

There Is Some Healing Involved

While there is no serious downtime, you can still drive yourself home, shower and eat normally it will take about 7 days to heal completely. We always warn her clients that their lips will darken during this phase but not to worry as they will lighten up again once healed.
